Two Junior European medals won in Aalborg

Congratulations to Scotland's Jacob Smart who won Silver and England's Brandon Carr winning Bronze at the 46th EKF Junior & Cadet and U21 Championships - Aalborg, Denmark.

Jacob Smart - Cadet -57kg

Competing on the first day of the championships, Jacob started his championships off brightly winning his first round against Serbia 2-0.

Jacob faced Kosovo is his second round but both opponents failed to score. With a 0-0 draw the judges voted Jacob through to the next round.

Round three saw another 0-0 score line, this time against Bulgaria, and once again Jacob was awarded the match to progress into semi-final  round.

The fourth round semi-final pitted Jacob against France and Jacob was able to step it up and get the better of his opponent winning 4-2 to make the final.

The final saw Jacob face a tough Turkish opponent which produced a close final match. Unfortunately Jacob lost out 1-0 to Turkey settling for a hard fought silver medal.

Well done Jacob.

Brandon Carr - U21 +84kg

Fighting in the last category on day three of the championships was Brandon who after practically watching the whole championships from the side-lines was finally on the mat. However, Brandon didn't get off to the dream start he hoped for losing his opening round fight 2-1 to Spain following his initial first round bye.

Brandon patiently waited as the Spanish competitor went through the rounds to make the final meaning Brandon was in the repechage rounds.

Brandon's first repechage opponent was from Belarus. A close fight saw Brandon win the match by a 1-0 score line.

Facing Croatia in his next round, both fighters failed to score. With a 0-0 score line, the judges voted Brandon through to the bronze medal match.

Fighting for a medal, this time Brandon made sure he was on the score sheet and ahead of his Slovenian opponent as he won the match 2-1 securing that coveted bronze medal.

Well done Brandon.

Well done to all the competitors who competed at the championships.
