World Technical Commission Secretary, Mike Billman, steps down
It has been announced that the Secretary of the World Karate Federation Technical Commission, Mike Billman, 9th Dan, has given notice that he is having to resign his position for personal reasons.
Mike has been on the WKF Technical Commission for many years now and was also the chairman of the European Technical Commission at the same time.
Mike retired from the Euro TC in May, again for personal reasons, and now feels that he has to follow suit with his current position. Mike stressed that it is definitely for personal reasons and not for any karate related matters.
During his time on the commissions he, and his commission members, have constantly worked hard to improve competition rules for the spectators as well as the athletes. As an example, it was Mike who introduced Video Review to karate, even before it was accepted by other sports! He was one of only 3 people who initially worked on introducing Para Karate, which is now greatly accepted all over the world.
He has been involved with karate for almost 55 years now, and has also served as Chairman of the English Karate Federation and also as Vice President of the British Karate Federation, before moving up into Europe and the Worlds.
Mike is one of only two people in England to have reached such high positions, and will be greatly missed.
We would like to wish him the best for the future, and hope to see him
attend as a VIP guest at a future championships.
